Fundraising Information

               

Funding for the Pride of Salem comes from many sources, including the City of Salem School System, the City of Salem, and others.  However, expenses far exceed these resources, including band camp and travel to band competitions (food, housing, transportation, etc.), along with other expenses.  A primary goal of the band boosters is to defray a significant portion of these expenses, so that band remains an affordable option for all students. Parents of band members still pay significant band camp and band competition fees; the band booster activities keep them at a reasonable level.

Participation in fundraising at some level is requested of all band families.  Working together helps everyone.  A partial list of our fundraising efforts is shown below.  Details will be added when available.

What you can do:

1.    Stay informed.  Ask you band member for "take home" paperwork regularly.  Sometimes students accidentally leave informational memos and fundraising info in their bookbags.

2.    Check this web site for updated information.  If you have questions about a fundraising activity, check with the leader of that activity (check this page or the "contact info" page to find out who that is), or the Booster co-presidents.

3.    Participate in the fundraisers.

4.    Consider helping with the fundraisers.

Listing of expected fundraising activities this year:

1.    Summer Music Games of Southwest Virginia.  This July/August event raises a significant amount of money for the band boosters.  Families can contribute by helping organize the event, by working at the event, and by attending the event.

2.    Fruit and Nuts Sale.  In the fall of each year, we sell fruit and nuts as a fundraiser.  Each family is asked to sell these quality products to friends and family.  In addition to selling, collecting money, and delivering the products, families can help by aiding in the organization of the event, or helping distribute products after they arrive at a local warehouse.

3.    Concessions.  The Salem Band Boosters staff concession stands at the high school for a number of events.  Events include Salem High School basketball games, district band tryouts, and AAU tournaments.

4.    Additional past fundraisers have included a pre-game barbeque dinner during football season, pizza and cookie dough sales, among others.  Events vary by year, and specific information will be posted when available.
