  • Band Banquet!!!  It is time once again for the year end celebration of the Pride of Salem’s busy year of activities, the annual Band Banquet.  The event is for band members and their families.  First will come a potluck dinner (see details below), followed by awards for senior band members (with student speeches) and similar recognitions.  Please plan to come!!

    Date:  Friday, May 16
    Place: SHS Cafeteria
    Time:  Bring food starting at 6:00 PM, dinner will start at 6:30 PM
    What is provided:  The Salem Band Boosters are providing the main course for everyone!
    What you need to bring for the potluck:  Bring a side dish or salad, and a dessert, and drinks.  Bring enough to feed your own family.  If everyone brings that much food, we’ll have enough for everyone (dinner will be in a potluck format).

  • Summer Music Games (DCI) tickets:  Tickets are now on sale!!! NOTE:  Ticket sales are being handled differently this year from past years.  The Salem Band Boosters have contracted with a professional ticketing agency to sell tickets.  Advance tickets can be purchased online or by phone.  Note that tickets will not be sold by mailing in an order form this year, nor will the Salem Civic Center be selling tickets.  For details on ordering tickets, see the ticket information page.  Our event will be on July 29th!

  • DVD orders:  As in past years, two different DVD's are being made for the 2007-2008 band year.  One covers the fall marching band season (starting with band camp).  The other DVD is for the OPUS 2008 show.  The Salem Band Boosters contracts with a professional video agency to produce these DVDs, and they are typically quite high quality.  They include both professional tapings of events and amateur tapings of events by parents.  The cost is $15 each.  Please use this order form to place your order!  These DVD's make nice mementos of the year.  Contact Ted Lawrence if you have any questions.  387-2246.

    This year's Drum Corps International Summer Music Games of Southwest Virginia will be held July 29 at the Salem Stadium. We have a great line up, a great date, and we are expecting another fantastic show! The ability to provide a quality show for all the dedicated performers, while also sharing the magic with people all over the Roanoke Valley makes for an awesome night!

    During the last couple of years, the committee that handles the logistics of making this event such a success for the Salem Band Boosters has undergone a few shifts. There were parents that believed after more than 10 years, they might want to pursue other interests. Can you imagine!!! We have had some new people step up to the plate and take over positions to make the transition as seamless as possible. We are carrying on the high standards set by our predecessors as well as we can.

    The committee is in need of more people. The more volunteers available to take care of the details, the less responsibilities any one person has. We need more people that can help with publicity, ad sales, day of show responsibilities, and more. This event is our largest fund raiser, sometimes netting as much as $20,000 (in a year with strong attendance) to support our music programs at the High School.

    If anyone is interested in helping on this committee, please get in touch with me. Preparations have already begun for this year's show. It's work, and sometimes frustrating, but always rewarding. To be able to provide a superior event and venue for more than 4000 people to come watch the dedication and excellence of these performers is a fantastic feeling!
